How we met

The first Hinge messages: Thai likes a selfie of Jingwen beside a goat, then opens with “Hello! Happy Saturday! How’s the day going for you so far??”

We met back in 2022 on Hinge — go dating apps! — when Thai’s unique name caught Jingwen’s attention.

We spent our first few dates eating our way around San Francisco. Fun fact: the first three restaurants we went to have all since closed. We’d like to think they peaked after hosting us :)

Surprisingly similar

Despite coming from completely different backgrounds, we soon discovered we were surprisingly similar where it mattered: our taste in food, our sense of humour, our introvert-at-heart energy, and our idea of what a happy life looks like.

Five gallons of water

On our first road trip to Tahoe, Thai packed five gallons of water, blankets, instant food, a little stove, a ton of snacks, and the obligatory twelve cans of Taiwan Beer. He even renewed AAA in case we got stuck in the snow. Jingwen thought this was wildly unnecessary… until we almost got stuck in the snow.

Meanwhile, when Jingwen plans a supposedly “relaxing” vacation, she has a detailed spreadsheet with daily itineraries, restaurants, travel times and backup options. Thai’s approach? “We’ll just figure it out when we get there.”

Nine days in Italy

2023

Somehow, our very different ways of doing things worked pretty well together. So well, in fact, that less than a year into dating, Thai casually invited himself along on Jingwen’s family trip to Italy and ended up spending a whole nine days with her parents — his first time meeting them. At our last dinner, Jingwen asked her parents, in front of Thai, “So… how would you rate Thai on a scale of one to ten?” He passed!

A city, a roommate and a second dog

2025

Fast forward a few years: we moved in together in San Francisco, a city Thai swore he would never live in. Jingwen officially became Makku’s roommate. And in 2025 we decided our house needed a little more chaos and got another puppy, Kaito.

The proposal

December 2025

In December 2025, Thai brought us back to Lake Tahoe (right before a blizzard) and proposed. And the rest is history :)

The closest airport is Đà Nẵng International, a thirty to forty minute drive from the hotel venue. More details can be found in the questions below.

  • When should I arrive, and how long should I stay?

    While the wedding itself will be held on Saturday 22 May 2027, we will be holding optional events on the 21st and the 23rd. We would love for you to join if possible!

  • Can I bring kids?

    As much as we love your little ones, we will be keeping the ceremony and reception adults-only.

    We are working on finding nanny and childcare recommendations who can look after them in the hotel, and we are more than happy to help coordinate. We will ask for more details in the RSVP.

  • Do I need a visa for Vietnam?

    Yes! Most nationalities will need an e-visa. It costs US$25 for a single entry and we recommend applying at least three weeks in advance.

    You will need a digital passport photo — white background, no glasses — and a clear scan of your passport bio page. Please also ensure your passport has at least six months of validity and at least two blank pages before travelling.

    The list of nationalities exempt from visa requirements is published on the same official portal. Regulations can change, so please verify the latest requirements before you travel.

  • How do we get to Đà Nẵng International Airport?

    For our guests travelling from Singapore: there are multiple flights each day, around three hours on average, on Scoot, Singapore Airlines, Vietnam Airlines and others.

    For our guests travelling from elsewhere: we understand it will be a long flight for most of our friends and family in Europe and the US — thank you in advance for making the trip! There are multiple flights to Đà Nẵng from most major airports, often with a stopover at a major Asian hub such as Seoul, Taipei, Tokyo or Hong Kong.

  • How do we get around Đà Nẵng?

    While local taxis and public transport are available, Grab — the local rideshare app — will be the most convenient way. We recommend downloading it ahead of time and linking your payment method.
